Working Together Online
Virtual Therapy
Virtual therapy offers a flexible and accessible way to engage in meaningful therapeutic work without the need to travel to an office. For many people, meeting online allows therapy to fit more easily into daily life while still offering depth, continuity, and connection.
Like any format, virtual therapy has both benefits and limitations, and it tends to work best when expectations and structure are clear. This page is meant to help you consider whether online therapy may be a good fit for you.
Benefits of Virtual Therapy
Virtual therapy can reduce common barriers to beginning and continuing therapy, such as commuting time, scheduling constraints, or geographic location.
Benefits may include:
Greater flexibility around scheduling
Access to therapy regardless of location within Tennessee
Fewer disruptions related to travel, weather, or mobility
The ability to integrate therapy more smoothly into daily life
Potential Limitations
Virtual therapy is not a perfect fit for everyone or every situation. Some people find it harder to concentrate on a screen, feel less connected without being in the same physical space, or have difficulty maintaining privacy at home.
Online therapy may not be appropriate if:
You do not have a reliable internet connection
You are unable to access a private space consistently
You are experiencing frequent crises that require in-person support
You strongly prefer face-to-face interaction
If you’re unsure, we can talk together about whether virtual therapy is likely to meet your needs.
Who Virtual Therapy Often Works Well For
Virtual therapy tends to work well for adults who:
Are comfortable using basic video technology
Have a private space available for sessions
Appreciate flexibility and consistency
Are able to reflect and engage in conversation
Prefer therapy that fits into daily life rather than requiring travel
When In-Person Therapy May Be a Better Fit
In-person therapy may be a better option if:
You need a contained, external space away from home
Privacy is difficult to maintain where you live
You feel significantly more grounded in a shared physical space
Your situation requires local, in-person resources
I’m always happy to help you think through alternatives or referrals if needed.
How Virtual Sessions Work
All sessions are conducted through SimplePractice, a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform designed for mental health care.
Scheduling, forms, and session access are managed through a private client portal.
Privacy and Confidentiality
Virtual therapy relies on both technological security and shared responsibility. I use secure, HIPAA-compliant platforms for scheduling and sessions. Confidentiality is best supported by participating from a private location and using a secure internet connection.
Service Area
All therapy services are offered virtually for adults located in Tennessee, in accordance with licensure requirements.
